Oscar night is just as much about the fashion as the awards. It seems months of preparation go into the perfect dress, hair and accessories.
The color of this year’s Oscars seemed to be red. It was everywhere and in every style imaginable. Dresses can range from $10,000 to upwards of $50,000. The fact many people do not realize is that the dress isn’t always bought. Many designers will let stars “borrow” a dress for the evening to get their name out there, especially new designers who are just coming up in the fashion world. Well known designers such as Vera Wang are thrilled to have their names mentioned on the red carpet but don’t have to “loan” dresses out as they are already well established.
The jewelry is also often on loan. Some stars wear millions of dollars of jewelry on “loan” from their favorite jeweler. Many of the pieces worn on Oscar night have special insurance taken out just to let them leave of the jewelry store.
How stars get ready for the big night varies as well. Some train for weeks, avoiding carbs and adding workouts to be sure they are ready for that dress to fit right and tight! Others are low key and simply have a relaxing day with spa treatments or luncheons with family and friends.
Readers wait with baited breath to see their favorite newspapers and magazine’s coverage of the Oscar night fashions. Agents wait to see if their “star” made the best or worst dressed list. It is a night of not only awards but high fashion hits or misses.
